Resume

Qian Xuhong, a doctorate holder, academician, member of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Chemistry Department), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and ambassador scientist of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

 

Born in Baoying, Jiangsu in 1962, Qian Xuhong entered the Petrochemical Department of East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) in September 1978 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in basic organic chemical engineering in July 1982. In September 1982, he became a graduate student in the Fine Chemical Engineering Department of East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) and obtained his master's degree in April 1985. He obtained his doctorate in Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology in July 1988. He was a Research Associate at Lamar University in Texas from August 1989 to August 1990 and a Humboldt Foundation (AvH) postdoctoral fellow at the University of Würzburg in Germany from September 1990 to December 1991. He was a lecturer at East China University of Science and Technology from 1988 to April 1992, associate professor from August 1992 to July 1994, and professor since August 1994. He became a doctoral supervisor in December 1995. From 1986 to 1987, he served as the deputy secretary of the Party branch of the Fine Chemical Engineering Department of East China University of Science and Technology. From August 1992 to April 1995, he successively served as the director of the Fine Chemical Engineering Discipline and the director of the Drug Chemical Engineering Research Institute of East China University of Science and Technology. From May to July 1995, he was a student at the National Advanced Education Administration College. From September 1995 to February 1996, he served as the assistant president of East China University of Science and Technology, and from March 1996 to October 2000, he served as the vice president. He was the director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology from January 2002 to January 2010 (part-time) and the director of the National Southern Pesticide Innovation Center (Shanghai) from March 2003 to June 2006 (part-time). He served as the president of East China University of Science and Technology from July 2004 to March 2015. Since April 2007, he has been the vice chairman of the Chinese Chemical Society, and from 2007 to 2009, he served as the chairman of the Asian and Pacific Chemical Federation.

 

He received the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in 1992, the National Model Teacher in 1995, the State Council Government Special Allowance in 1996, the Chinese Young Scientist Award in 1998, and the Shanghai Top Ten Science and Technology Elite in 1999. As the first completor, he won the first prize of the Ministry of Education for Scientific and Technological Progress in 1998, 2002, and 2003, the first prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award in 2008, the second prize of the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2008, and the second prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award in 2010. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2011. Qian Xuhong's research direction is bioorganic chemistry and engineering. His research mainly focuses on green chemical pesticides derived from heterocyclic aromatics and organic fluorine derivatives, as well as the chemical biology and engineering of biofunctional dyes. It involves the design, synthesis, structure-activity relationship, and biological application of aromatic heterocyclic molecules for pesticide leads, fluorescent sensors, anticancer leads, artificial nucleases, and cell activators.
