Resume

Shan-Tung Tu was born in 1961, received his doctorate in chemical machinery from Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology in 1988. From 1989 to 1990, he engaged in postdoctoral research at the Mechanics Institute of Southwest Jiaotong University. From 1990 to 1993, he was invited to serve as a Guest Scientist at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. From 1993 to 2001, he served as the vice president, dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, associate professor, professor, and doctoral supervisor of Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology and Nanjing University of Technology. From June 2006 to July 2015, he served as the vice president of East China University of Science and Technology.

He mainly engages in the research of safety technology for high-temperature and high-pressure equipment. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2019, serving as the chairman of the Science and Technology Association of East China University of Science and Technology and a professor at the university. He has innovatively developed technologies such as safety maintenance, safety evaluation, and intrinsic safety control for high-temperature pressure vessels, which have been successfully applied in safety protection projects in petrochemical, energy, and other heavy chemical industries, contributing to the annual decrease in the accident rate of tens of thousands of pressure vessels in China. These technologies have also been promoted and applied in the reliability design and manufacturing of products such as large reactors, heat exchangers, steam turbines, and high-end valves, creating significant economic benefits for enterprises. Focusing on the theory and technology of safety assurance for high-temperature and high-pressure chemical equipment, he has successively won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the National Invention Award, 1 first prize of the Shanghai Natural Science Award, and 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award. He has published 3 monographs and 354 papers. Tu Shandong has presided over or participated in 196 national-level scientific research projects supported by funds and 129 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects. He has won 1 first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (as the second completor), 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (2 as the first completor), and 1 second prize of the National Technology Invention Award (as the second completor), as well as 10 special and first prizes at the provincial and ministerial level; 69 national invention patents, 4 international patents, and 14 software copyrights have been granted.
